10 things you need to know about me if we are going to be BFFs
Confession: I used to love to write. I wrote in my journal all the time, shared my secrets, created stories and poems, and had an openly flowing line from my brain to paper. Then a personal betrayal took it all away. One day, when I was 15, I came home from school to pages of my journal torn out and taped on the walls of the room. My dad found it, read it, and tore out the pages he found interesting, particularly those that mentioned him, boys, or any of the other trite things that teenage girls need to talk about in the privacy of a diary.
I was crushed. I was humiliated. And I haven’t been able to journal consistently since then. It took years, ten in fact, before I was able to freely write about my life and experiences, and be honest with my words. I started blogging for a popular national blog with a huge following, and lifecasted many of my experiences, aspects of my personal life, and opinions on just about everything. And then a similar personal betrayal happened. Someone close to me found the blog (it wasn’t hidden, but it wasn’t something I shared with everyone), didn’t like what I had to say, and confronted me in a very hateful way. The kind of way that could mess up marriages (it didn’t), ruin relationships (it did), and hurt deeply enough to never forgive (I haven’t).
So now I’m back to it. A complete inability to write. Writing for my business, especially. It’s a challenge, and one that breaks my heart and affects my soul. To help fight it, I’m taking a course with Vivid + Brave. Every day there are journaling prompts that encourage you to dig deep and brings thoughts to words more clearly. I thought I would share this recent prompt with you: things you need to know about me if we are going to be best buddies.
-I have a fear of failure. I have great ideas but often don’t start on them because I don’t want to fail, or be one of those people that starts things without finishing.
-I’m allergic to some stuff. Dogs, cats, juniper, spiders, citrus and tape, specifically.
-My favorite colors are gray, pink, teal and yellow.
-I can’t eat anything spicy. My mouth is super sensitive, sometimes black pepper can be too much.
-I love TV. I watch a lot. I watch while I edit, in my downtime, it helps me relax. I’m watching TV right now 🙂
-I hate going fast. Roller coasters, go carts, bikes…no thanks.
-I like a clean house but hate all housework.
-I’m terrified of losing someone super close to me (again). Especially my husband and kids.
-I 100% believe that men and women can be close friends, and some of my best friends are dudes. I even named my son after one of my best friends.
-I’m not crazy about live music. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. Music isn’t nearly as big of a part of my life as most of my friends, and the older I get, the more visual I get.
So there you have it! Some of my bff secrets. Now we are besties for life, and we can have pillow fights and hold each others hair after we party too hard. You know, bff stuff. Comment with something I need to know about you to be your bff! Also, thanks for reading. I’m excited to take this journey back to writing with you.
